Christian Foundation for the Deaf and Blind, Incorporated (CFDBI) provides services to people with disabilities throughout Negros Island. It is a non-profit, non-stock corporation established in 1986. CFDBI is supported by Christoffel-Blinden Mission International (CBMI), as well as other like-minded individuals, churches and agencies.
CFDB envisages a society where people with disabilities enjoy full participation and access to available resources to reach their full potential. It aims to enable families and communities to train, educate and empower people with disabilities. Its core values include: compassion, commitment, service, unity, faith in god, competence and respect.
CFDB is composed of seven Board of Trustees and twelve staff. Staff include an executive director, three admin staff, and eight program staff including seven Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) coordinators. Each CBR coordinator covers two to three towns. One of CBDFI’s key programs is the CBR Program, which covers Negros Island (Occidental and Oriental). Through this Program CFDBI works to enable communities through training programs including the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Orientation, Working with Families, Orientation and Mobility for Visually Impaired People, Basic Sign Language and Primary Ear and Eye Care programs. CFDBI also undertakes routine activities such as: organising people with disabilities and support groups; conducting training and activities for the empowerment and advocacy of people with disabilities and; conducting eye and ear screenings, and referrals of identified cases. CFDBI also hosts two annual activities: a summer camp for the visually impaired and; abacus training for the visually impaired.
